This is a very good design. I have one of these and I think it's very worth the money. It can be used in a lot of different ways, even while seated at a desk.

Weds 1/31

I am going to try to post what I have or have not done every day. I hope none of you are annoyed by the food diary, but I think writing it down and showing others will help me regulate myself. Do you think it would be better to do it at the end of the day, so it could include everything diet and exercise from the whole day?

Breakfast at 9:00 a.m. today was:
one fried egg
1/2 thin smoked pork-chop
1/2 cup cheese grits
1 slice buttered whole grain toast
1 cup coffee

Lunch at 1:00
1 apple

I found a diet recommended by Pilates. The entire one week diet, recipes and all, fits on a tri-fold 8 1/2 X 11 card. And it has a shopping list. I showed it to Tim and he agreed that we would go to the grocery store and buy double the amounts indicated, so we can do this together. He's moving out soon, but we will have at least a week to help one another get going on this.

I have been reading that it REALLY is better to exercise within an hour after rising in the morning, because that sets your metabolism to increase rather than decrease the rest of the day. The book I'm reading also says to keep metabolism from falling, you should never sit perfectly still (you know those people who annoy you with their foot jiggling, or leg bouncing or whatever - that's supposed to be good for you). To keep your metabolism from falling, you're supposed to get up and move for several minutes every couple of hours or so.

I finally made it

now let's see if I can get my lazy butt to start exercising... today, I am going to bundle up, stretch out, and shoot some hoops for a little bit. Later today, I have an interview for the position of Acting Teacher at a late-night creative academy. That would be fun.

cellular exercise

Remember when I was home around Christmas and mentioned the rebounder as a way to detoxify and alkalize the body? Check out this article on the benefits of cellular exercise at needakrebounders.com. Needak is supposedly the best rebounder out there, with a lifetime guarantee. Can't wait until I can afford one ;) Peace.

getting down to business

ok, well I finally got down to business and started exercising yesterday. i did one of my workout videos -- one of the easy ones. actually it was designed to be easy, but it wasn't that easy for me to do. on the bikini front, I figured out that if I lose 5lbs a month for the next 4 months, I'll lose almost 20lbs in time for Cannes. sounds pretty doable -- that's only 1.25lbs a week -- a mere 20 ounces, right? it doesn't help that every sunday morning someone in my house goes to the hostess store around the corner and buys a whole bag of donuts and other assorted sweet, cakey, fattening, frosted things. but i was strong this morning and resisted, even while everyone else was laughing and making an example of me -- while licking the powdered sugar off their lips. doesn't matter though, my thighs are happy that i stood my ground ;) i can hear them cheering! now i'm trying to get up the motivation to do my 'bob greene's total body makeover strength training workout'. what a ridiculous name for a health product - it sounds so unrealistic. i wonder if these names have anything to do with why people give up so quickly once they get started. a total body makeover in my mind would consist of losing 15-20lbs, sculpting my muscles, getting rid of my acne scars and gaining about 5 inches in height. i could be wrong, but i don't think bob's product can come anywhere close to achieving the last two ;) stay tuned for more dispatches, thanks for listening. hugs to all.

Homosexuality and choice: KC Star Letters 1/14/07

If the context is Social, there must be variability in biological and other factors said to effect the degree of Choice "we" have in certain behaviors.

IF we could validly and reliably describe agreed upon behavioral factors in terms of the shared languages of Rational Empiricism, i.e. describing experiencial characteristics of test groups, representing whatever Population, in terms of whatever statistical assumptions.

If a valid and reliable test were in fact implemented, and if the test yeilds reliable data, the score frequency distribution(s) (for which-ever agreed upon "Dependent Variable" being evaluated) most likely demonstrates what is referred to as "the Bell Curve" - a very politically In-correct notion anymore, i.e. "the Normal Distribution around whatever mean, median or mode" that shows up in valid reliable applied research. The Normal Distribution is bell-shaped, with few high scorers, few very low scorers, and MOST scores around whichever you prefer of : mean, median, or mode, with margins of error of course. The "Normal Distribution" is a statistical entity based on the number of times a given score occurs in one or more groups. Certain types of valid group tests yeild this pattern: few high, few low, and most scores around somekind of mean. The extent to which Biology determines Homosexuality would be a spectrum composed of variations in factors that are a spectrum from Highly biological in nature, hard-wired, to Highly Arbitrary Choice in nature. If it were possible to devise and implement a test, the validity and reliability of which is identified by a more or less "Normal Distribution" of the empirical evidence, according to common statistical tools we might expect to find:A relative few people who are indeed highly characterized by the biological factors that amount to being born a Homosexual.

A relative few people who actually are highly characterized by the Arbitrary factors associated with the opposite of being biologically pre-determined, i.e. relatively HIGH degree of Choice in the Experiences tested, other Motivators involved.

Also - By Far - most of the scores from a hypothetical test of the factors affecting Homosexual Behavior, again - the great majority of scores from this hypothetical test of homosexuality would be mixes of factors/influences on the behavior in question, with 50:50 usually being the dominant dynamic.

Before you flame me about this, please note basic assumptions, there can be quite a bit of difference between a given individual and a group.

- And - This hueristic is, of course, Hypothetical, because the basic subject is the philosophy of Rational Empiricism, a.k.a. the Scientific Method, which IS essentially hypothetical.

Also for flame inocculation: My personal ethic is that 50:50, 1:99, whatever Biology:Choice or anything else, it's the Individual's God Given Human Right and Responsibility to Choose what is Right and Wrong, so 50:50, 30:70, 60:40, 10:90, 90:10, 99:1, the Individual's soul is best manifested in its own behavioral confirmation of whatever the truth actually is.

Re: Senator Kennedy’s bill to require the President to come to Congress for approval of his plans and to make specific funding requests for his plan for Iraq, which Congress must vote on.

The fact that the President and his advisors do not understand Iraq is strongly demonstrated by Secretary Rice’s recent statements to the effect that there are no contingency plans for what to do if benchmarks are not met.

This administration also does not understand that the conflict in Iraq is not primarily with al Qaeda. The situation is more dynamic than the President and Secretary Rice understand. The foreign fighters in Iraq are not all Al Qaeda. The Invasion of Iraq has triggered a Civil War, not the rise of a single caliphate belonging to Al Qaeda.

Al Qaeda is in Afghanistan and distributed in un-known other places around the World along with several similar terrorist groups. A “surge” escalates the dynamics in the geo-political and economic factors. Putting all of our Military Resources into Iraq puts the U.S. over-a-barrel, isolated, at serious disadvantage, while other World economic forces take over more markets, putting the U.S. even further into disadvantage. If we start a War on Iran too, we will be “over-the-barrel” – Paralyzed - Forever.

Please support Senator Kennedy’s efforts “To prohibit the use of funds for an escalation of United States Forces in Iraq above numbers existing as of January 9, 2007”.

I look forward to you voice in the national discourse on these matters soon.

Thanks for reading this.

Fax to Dennis Moore 1/10/07 Re Increase in Minimum Wage

Re: H.R. 2 Increase in Minimum Wage

This “good” economy isn’t good for way more people than anyone wants to admit. Business should, of course, be encouraged, but that encouragement has turned into Solid-Gold Privilege contributing to extreme in-equalities and enormous stresses in people’s lives from out-of-control im-balances in Social and Economic Justice. Unions are threatened and harassed at any and every opportunity. Health care and insurance costs, private and shared, go up for everyone. Real wages are dropping. The opportunities for non-Corporate citizens to affect their own lives are severely limited by campaign finance corruption. Let’s draw a line and establish a floor for the lower-middle-class, who need it more than the middle-class does.

Please act in support of an increase in Minimum Wage, with no other riders and amendments. I hope you help to create an opportunity for a clean vote on this essential social issue.

I look forward to seeing your thoughts on this in the media soon.

Thanks for reading this.

Sincerely,

What is so fucking ironic is that these are the people who claim to be

lead by "Values", Morality, The OLD Testament primarily, a little Jesus (not the Universal Jesus) etc. etc. etc. And what they really are is people without sense.

I.e. - unable to perceive Value, except as Self gratification, living on and expoliting Semantic Deconstruction, i.e. Absolute Self-referential Relativism, Congitivistically (if that's a word) Exclusive, e.g. defining exclusively by exclusion, rather than relatively by inclusion, i.e. of Other, which is what Liberality does.

Perhaps we shouldn't be surprised that we have come to this Hell.

Please Call or Write to your Senators:

Surging in Iraq is not a Uni-lateral activity. Surging is Inherently dynamic, because there are Many "actors" in that region of the World. Surging definitely IS, therefore, Escalation, an escalation that could very easily result in the use of at least Tactical NUCLEAR weapons.

The probability of some kind of Incident increases exponentially, because Surging is not a unilateral action and especially because there are so many who would be interested in seeing the U.S. in MORE trouble.

My husband and I are having hard times staying employed and, here we are, being forced to pay for something that both of us considered Morally Wrong from the very start and one of the biggest Mistakes ever made. Continuing on this course of action only insures that we will continue on this course of action, whether or not it is morally right, or makes even common sense.

President Bush's Surge is a "Surge because I say so" and for no other rational reason.

Please vote in support of Senator Edward Kennedy's (D-MA) bill "To prohibit the use of funds for an escalation of United States Forces in Iraq above numbers existing as of January 9, 2007."

I await your public discourse on this matter soon.
